Addis Ababa - The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) says Africa is slowly shaking off the effects of the global financial crisis, but warns the road to full recovery will still be painful and requires adjustments to economic management.
Addressing African Union (AU) foreign ministers, ECA executive secretary Abdoulie Janneh, said African economies - which predominantly export raw materials - were badly affected by the global economic and financial crisis last year.
African gross domestic product (GDP) dropped last year to 1.9 percent from 4.9 percent in 2008 because of the crisis, and the continent also experienced reversals in politics, health and other social areas, the ECA official said.
