Windhoek - Bank Windhoek, one of Namibia's commercial banks recently opened its doors in Oshikango, a small town in northern Namibia, near the Angolan border.
The town has grown into a vibrant business post, thanks to its promixity to Angola.
The Managing Director of Bank Windhoek, James Hill said the bank was striving to respond to the needs of the people and therefore saw the need to venture into Oshikango. "It was decided to bring accessible and affordable banking closer to the people."
He said the banking environment in Namibia was competitive as evidenced by the innovation, financial services and products offered by the various banks in the country. He also said that a large number of people within the Namibian population do not have access to financial services and products.
"Bank Windhoek is committed to the growth of the Namibian economy by providing funds to small and medium enterprises, better known as SME's," Hill said.
In his keynote address Usko Nghaama, the Governor of the Ohangwena region, said the region had become a centre of attraction to both national and international communities. He added that the region was experiencing fast economic growth "despite it being one of the regions badly affected during the war, lacking most of the basic facilities".
Due to increased trade between Namibia and Angola, the branch will offer foreign exchange services and a wide spectrum of products to satisfy the diverse needs of its customers. "The opening of Bank Windhoek Oshikango branch can be seen as an important milestone for Namibia and its people," read a statement from Bank Windhoek.
