Muluzi undecided on comeback
Muluzi touched down at the Hosea Kutako International Airport on Thursday to hold talks with Namibia's former President and SWAPO Party Chief, Dr. Sam Nujoma.

Muluzi, who was president of Malawi from 1994 until 2004, told reporters that he has not yet made a decision on the matter, adding that he has served the Malawian people for 10 years, 'so it will be also nice if people elected another person to represent the United Democratic Front (UDF) party'.

Some people, including party officials have been suggesting that Muluzi run for Presidency again in 2009 to challenge the incumbent President Bingu wa Mutharika.

'I served 10 years as a President and I have strengthened democracy in the country. The issue of Presidency did not come to my mind. My responsibility now is to build the party and the issue of leadership, we leave it to the people,' said Muluzi who is the Chairman of the UDF party.

When time came for him to leave office, he appointed Mutharika as the party's presidential candidate in the May 2004 general elections.

Mutharika who later dumped the UDF to form his own Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has been accused of being ungrateful to Muluzi who hand-picked him from outside the party and made him the party's candidate amid protests within the then ruling party.

'I am here to consult and visit my old friend,' said Muluzi, who was also expected to pay a courtesy call on President Hifikepunye Pohamba.

He explained that during his talks with former President Nujoma, they would consult on the issue of the Africa Forum of Former Presidents.

'The forum is bearing fruits now, as the former Presidents discussed issues that affect their countries, among others, conflict and HIV/AIDS,' he said, adding that they are trying to use their experiences and help in sharing that experiences with the current leaders.

The forum took place in Mozambique and South Africa and this year it will be held in June in a country to be announced later. ' Nampa.
