SA firms eye Zambian mart

South African High Commission trade and information assistant officer, Winza Sichali, said yesterday in an interview that most of the companies certified by the South African Bureau of Standards especially in the construction and tourism industry were dedicated to contribute to the development of Zambia.



Sichali said Zambia in the Southern African region was the second largest trading partner with the rainbow nation after Zimbabwe as the country generated about 70 percent of its imports especially on raw materials.



He said that highly profiled South African companies had invested in Zambia in order to alleviate the current unemployment difficulties faced by the country to sustain and add value to the economy in various sectors.



"Zambia is heading in a right economic direction with its good investment policies making the best destination for companies in Southern Africa to conduct their business as it is centrally located," he said.



In the social aspect to contribute to the Zambian communities, Sichali cited some South African companies operating in Zambia like the Zambia Breweries Plc, African Explosives and Sun International Group of Hotels who have been ploughing back in the society their profits to enhance the living conditions of Zambians.



Most of the South African companies contributed positively to the Zambian government's coffers through income and other taxes, Sichali noted. ' The Times of Zambia.
