Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive Karikoga Kaseke said in 2006 the sector contributed six percent to Gross Domestic Product and 17 percent in foreign currency earnings.
He said the government now ranked tourism among the top three pillars of the economy alongside agriculture and manufacturing in terms of foreign currency generation.
In 2006 about 2,3 million tourists visited the country, a figure that represented a 47 percent increase compared with the previous year.
