Lilongwe – Since 2019, Theo Dithokwa of Botswana has been working on an animation called Detective Patrick Moletsaphala.
Now it is finally ready for release.
The 22-year-old animator and filmmaker says he completed several pilot episodes and it appears it is all systems go for the premiere.
“The film will not be released the way we normally release content though, for the film is going to premiere at New Capitol Cinemas,” said Dithokwa. “This is my way of showing young people that animation is an art that is valuable and can create a lot of opportunities for young people.”
Dithokwa, who has not yet revealed the premiere dates, said he really wanted to motivate other young people in Botswana to get into animation and develop the sector.
He is a graduate of the University of Botswana, having pursued a degree in Media Studies which gave focus and finesse to his love of technology and creating things.
Dithokwa has been an animator for five years and often collaborates closely with his colleague, Boago Sephutho. The young animator also has a partnership with Keno Custom Suits, Basadi Ba Tlhwatlhwa and New Capital Cinemas.
