Harare – Industry leader Travel + Leisure Magazine says Southern Africa has some of the best hotels on the continent, according to the publication’s annual Top 500 list.
The list is based on votes cast by travellers, with key considerations being rooms and facilities, location, service, food and value for money.
Hotels from Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe – all SADC member states – feature prominently on the 2021 list.
In particular, highly rated hotels include Oyster Box in Umhlanga and La Residence in Franschhoek (both in South Africa), Tongabezi Lodge in Livingstone (Zambia), Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge and Elewana Arusha Coffee Lodge (both in Tanzania), and Victoria Falls Safari Lodge (Zimbabwe).
Victoria Falls Safari Lodge representative Mr Ross Kennedy said, “This is a testament to our operations team, and every member of staff who plays a role in delivering the experience, service and quality to each guest. We are so proud of this recognition.”
Mr Kennedy said such recognition would help hotels in Southern Africa bounce back from the impact of COVID-19, which has seen international travel take a huge knock as governments implement restrictions on movements and people think twice about being out and about.
“This announcement, coming almost a year into lockdown, has been extremely uplifting for us all, and with vaccinations now being rolled out across the globe, we are looking forward to the recovery of our industry as travellers are motivated to venture to long-haul and bucket list destinations,” he said.
